About the speaker, Lize Redelinghuis, Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE)
Lize works at the DFFE as a Senior Legal Administration Officer: Law Reform (Cape Town).
Lize obtained her LLB and LLM (cum laude) from North-West University. Having completed her articles, she was admitted as an attorney of the High Court in 2014. Then, she joined an environmental consulting firm as a health, safety and environmental (SHE) legal specialist. She has worked for the DFFE since 2018, first as Deputy Director responsible for providing legal support to the Environmental Management Inspectorate, and more recently as Senior Legal Administration Officer within the Directorate Law Reform, based in Cape Town. Currently, her duties include providing legal support to all branches of DFFE, focused mainly on the Oceans and Coast and Fisheries regimes. She also drafts and vets new and revised legislation within the mandate of the Department. Building on her previous role at the DFFE, she provides enforcement support. For instance, Lize prepares administrative enforcement notices and provides general legal support.
